How do Brian Goorjian and the Australian Boomers book a place in the Olympic Quarter-Finals? Every scenario explained.

UPDATE: Following the loss to Greece, the scenario is a simple one for the Australian Boomers.

A win for Canada against Spain (1.15am AEST, Saturday) would see Australia finish in second place in Group A and advance to the Quarter-Finals.

A win for Spain would leave the Boomers in fourth place and eliminated from the Paris Olympics.

It’s all on the line for the Australian Boomers, with the final night of games in Group A deciding whether they’ll advance to the next stage in Paris, or board an early flight home.

An impressive win against Spain was backed up with a loss against Canada, and now the task gets all the more difficult for the Boomers against Greece. Australia currently sits second in Group A, behind Canada, but the final two games will ultimately decide their fate.

So how do Brian Goorjian and his team book a place in the Olympic Quarter-Finals?

Reminder: The top two teams from each of the three groups qualify for the Quarter-Finals. The two highest third-placed teams will also advance, meaning eight teams in total go through to the next stage.

How the Boomers can qualify for the next stage

Australia will qualify for the Quarter-Finals if:
- Australia defeats Greece.

Australia will finish FIRST in their group if:
- Australia defeats Greece AND Canada loses to Spain by 9 points or more.

Australia will finish SECOND in their group if:
- Australia defeats Greece AND Canada defeats Spain
- Australia defeats Greece AND Canada loses to Spain by 8 points or less.
- Australia loses to Greece by 9 points or less AND Canada defeats Spain.

Australia will finish THIRD in their group if:
- Australia loses to Greece by 10-16 points AND Canada defeats Spain.

Australia will finish FOURTH in their group if:
- Australia loses to Greece by 18 points or more AND Canada defeats Spain.
- Australia loses to Greece AND Spain defeats Canada.

There's so much still to play out, but ultimately Australia's fate is in its own hands. Win, they're in. Lose, and the Boomers are sweating on the results of the Canada/Spain game a few hours later.
