Hawks top priority, but Tatum open-minded

Thursday, January 25, 2024
Interim Illawarra head coach Justin Tatum has revealed he is open to a head coaching role elsewhere in the NBL.
Justin Tatum has been a breath of fresh air as the Illawarra Hawks interim head coach this season, and while he’s firming as a strong candidate to continue in the role, he hasn’t ruled out the potential to pursue other head coaching roles in the competition.
The Hawks have surged back into Finals contention under Tatum, however three straight losses has pushed them back into eighth position.
Tatum says while the Hawks remain his priority, he will give himself the best opportunity to retain his position as a senior coach in the NBL.
“If it’s not for the Hawks, it’s for one of the other teams in the league. I would like to retain a head coaching job in the NBL. The Hawks is not the only destination, but it’s my top priority for sure,” Tatum told The Illawarra Mercury.
“My representation and team have started talking and engaged in it, but as for continuing talks, I don’t want to be distracted with something extra on my plate.”
