NBL Media’s Liam Santamaria continues his look at each and every signing, breaking down what it all means ahead of #NBL21.

2019-20 G League stats (per game): 19.7 points, 8.1 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 49.7 FG%, 40.3 3P%, 89.4 FT%

Quote: “When Brisbane came and offered the deal it seemed like something we had to look into. After doing some research it seemed like the perfect fit for me.” – Vic Law

My take: The Bullets needed to replace Magnay with a high-level talent and that’s precisely what they’ve done with the addition of Vic Law.

A 6-foot-7 forward, Law spent last season – his first as a pro – tearing up the G League before being signed by Orlando to a two-way contract early in the New Year.

He’s a small forward in the NBA but will mostly play power forward in the NBL (while also seeing some minutes at the three). That kind of profile should see him slot nicely into the Bullets’ starting frontcourt alongside Orlando Johnson and Matt Hodgson, with Nathan Sobey and Anthony Drmic as their starting guards.

Law’s a bucket-getter. I mean, he can really shoot the rock. In fact, what will make him really hard to guard in NBL21 is his ability to get buckets in a variety of ways. He’s a consistent long range threat, an efficient post scorer and can also make plays off the dribble by driving to the rim or sticking pull-up jumpers. For reference, check out the numbers that he put up in the G League last year. The man averaged 20 points a night on what were essentially 50–40–90 shooting clips!

As far as the rest of his game is concerned, Law is a very good athlete – fluid with his movement up and down the floor – and both a high-IQ player and a solid defender.

This is a guy, not unlike SEM’s Ben Moore and Sydney’s Jarell Martin, who will be looking to parlay a successful stint Down Under to get back to the NBA. He’s still pretty young (he’s about to turn 25) and he’s definitely an NBA-level talent. Bullets fans should be excited about this signing.
