Favourite Son Returns to New Zealand

Breakers icon Finn Delany has returned to the club on a two-year deal.

One of New Zealand’s favourite basketball sons is returning to the Breakers for NBL24, with former All-NBL Second Team nominee Finn Delany heading back to the club on a two-year deal.

Delany initially played for the Breakers between 2015 and 2022, before heading to the German Basketball Bundesliga with Telekom Baskets Bonn for the 2022-2023 season.

The 2018 Commonwealth Games bronze medal winner helped lead Bonn to a 31-3 record in the Basketball Bundesliga regular season, before they fell to Ratiopharm Ulm in the playoff finals.

Bonn also won the Basketball Champions Legaue, courtesy of a 77-70 victory over Hapoel Jerusalem.

Delany also played for the Dallas Mavericks in the 2019 NBA Summer League, and Serbian side KK FMP Belgrade in the same year.

“Finn wanting to return to the Breakers is the highlight of my off-season,” head coach Mody Maor said.

“Finn chose to join the Breakers after his phenomenal season in Germany, because he wanted to part of what he saw from afar last season.

“I am extremely appreciative to Matt Walsh, and the ownership group, for making Finn’s signing a possibility.”

Delany’s return will see him add to the 162 appearances he has already made for the club – which sees him sit eighth on the Breakers’ all-time appearance list.

He boasts career averages of 9.4 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists a game in the NBL.

He has joined Tom Abercrombie, Will McDowell-White, Izayah Le’Afa, Cam Gliddon, Dan Fotu, Mangok Mathiang and Next Star Mantas Rubstavicius on the club’s listed roster for next season.
