The intersection between basketball, fashion, sneakers, and culture has never been lost on Corey ‘Homicide’ Williams.
Now, the 2010 NBL MVP will have a chance to express himself after being appointed as the Creative Director of Basketball for Foot Locker Pacific.
“Growing up in New York City, all I wanted to do is have my mum take me to Foot Locker and buy sneakers, because they always had the hottest sneakers first,” Williams said.
“It was just motivation because they had the most fly sneakers in their stores in New York. It was just, I need to get to Foot Locker, get there early, and get the hottest shoe.”
Part of Williams’ role will be continuing his episodes of 'The Cut' - a basketball sneaker review series, plus contributing to Foot Locker’s ‘Every Court Counts’ campaign which centres around community empowerment, a program which perfectly aligns with Corey's basketball background.
Williams will also soon release a multi-part docu-series about New York City hoops and hip-hop culture, which he produced in partnership with Foot Locker whilst in New York in the NBL offseason.
“I’m truly grateful for this opportunity,” Williams said.
“I didn't have a big name or big reputation, and it started from the playground.
“Yeah, I graduated college with two degrees, but my playing career professionally was dead. If it wasn't for Rucker Park and the EBC Tournament, I would not be here today.
“It's safe to say that the campaign that we're going to begin with that's called Every Court Counts, I'm a prime example of that.
“Every Court Counts and I just want to lead by that example, by inspiring the youth and let them know that regardless of what court you are on, you matter.”
