The New Zealand Breakers’ homecoming in NBL23 has been sweetened by the announcement the team will be playing two games in Christchurch this season.
The Breakers last played at Christchurch Arena in the 2020-2021 campaign where they defeated the Adelaide 36ers by 18 points. Current Perth Wildcat Corey Webster starred for the Breakers on that occasion, scoring 22 points.
Both of New Zealand’s games in Christchurch will come against Melbourne-based sides.
They welcome the South East Melbourne Phoenix on Thursday, December 1, before taking on Melbourne United on Thursday, January 12.
“Christchurch Arena has become something of a fortress for our club and, hopefully, it continues this season,” Breakers General Manager Simon Edwards told the club's website.
“We beat the 36ers there last year; the season before we had two nail-biting wins against the Phoenix.
“We haven’t beaten the Phoenix since our last visit to Christchurch in 2020, so we’re due a win against them on 1st December.”
