Australians in the NBA - Green trumps Daniels

Tuesday, January 16, 2024
Josh Green scored the win over Australian teammate Dyson Daniels as Dallas claimed a gritty five-point victory.
Josh Green has got the better of his Boomers teammate Dyson Daniels, contributing 13 points as Dallas beat New Orleans 125-120 in the NBA.
For only the second time in their history, the Mavericks had two 40-point scorers on Monday, with Kyrie Irving racking up 42 and Tim Hardaway Jr 41.
Irving and Luka Doncic - who missed his third consecutive game with a sprained ankle - combined for the other such game in March.
Green was the only other double-figure scorer for Dallas, nailing a three to give Dallas a six-point lead with 1:27 remaining before the Pelicans scored the next five points.
Zion Williamson scored 30 points for the Pelicans, but was six of 11 on free throws, including a miss with 17 seconds left when he had a chance to get New Orleans even after Dallas fouled him on purpose.
The Mavericks were down seven midway through the fourth quarter before Hardaway, who finished one point off his career high, hit consecutive 3-pointers to give them a 112-111 lead.
CJ McCollum scored 23 points for the Pelicans, with Daniels adding two in his 19 minutes of court time.
In New York, Aussie Joe Ingles contributed six points as his Orlando Magic beat the New York Knicks 98-94 to stop a three-game skid.
The Magic trailed by 11 in the third quarter but took charge midway through the final period and grabbed the lead for good at 90-89 when Cole Anthony (15 points) tipped in a missed shot with 3:45 to play.
Deuce McBride scored a career-high 20 points in a second-straight start in place of Knicks guard Jalen Brunson, who has a bruised left calf.
Australian Josh Giddey's Oklahoma City went down for the first game in five, 112-105, at the Los Angeles Lakers.
Giddey was down on form in attack with eight points, alongside five rebounds and three assists.
For the Lakers, Anthony Davis had 27 points and 15 rebounds, LeBron James scored 25 and D'Angelo Russell had 14 points and seven assists as the home side held off the powerhouse Thunder in the last quarter.
It was only LA's sixth win in 18 games, but two have come against Oklahoma City.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 16 of his 24 points in the first half while playing through a right knee sprain for Oklahoma City, while Jalen Williams had 25.
Memphis beat Golden State 116-107 in Draymond Green's return from his NBA suspension.
Green, suspended by the league indefinitely after hitting Phoenix Suns centre Jusuf Nurkic in the face on December 12, played 23 minutes for the Warriors and scored seven points.
In other games, Philadelphia beat visiting Houston 124-115, Detroit won at Washington 129-117, Utah beat the visiting Indiana 132-105, Atlanta won 109-99 at home to San Antonio, Boston won 105-96 at Toronto, Cleveland won 109-91 at home to Chicago, and Miami an overtime thriller 96-95 at the Brooklyn Nets.
