Todd Blanchfield and William Hickey have led Australia to two wins to open its FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup campaign.

The Australian men’s team has surged out to a strong start in the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup, registering a pair of dominant wins over Tahiti and Kyrgyzstan in the opening day’s play.

The Gangurrus feature Illawarra Hawks pair Todd Blanchfield and William Hickey, as well as Centre of Excellence duo Josh Davey and James O’Donnell.

They started their tournament with a 21-5 win over Tahiti in which Blanchfield starred with 15 points, before they dispatched Kyrgyzstan 21-6.

The scoring load was shared in the second victory of the day. Both Hickey and O’Donnell scored eight points.

Australia will play its final qualifying draw game against Kazakhstan tomorrow. Both teams are currently unbeaten at the tournament.

Australia’s women’s team is yet to open its tournament. Unlike the men’s side they do not need to emerge from the qualifying draw to take their place in the tournament pool.
