While their season hasn’t gone to plan, Melbourne United remains an enticing prospect for some of Australia’s elite sporting stars.
Recently Collingwood champion, Scott Pendlebury, entered United’s inner sanctum and sat in on team meetings, training sessions and games, looking to enhance his own individual coaching development.
“One of his (Pendlebury’s) feedbacks was there’s not enough direct conversations between your guys to try to fix problems,” Vickerman told Newscorp.
Pendlebury, the Magpies’ longest serving captain and a 300-game AFL superstar, provided direct advice around communication which immediately led to a change of mindset amongst the players and coaching staff.
“After the game, in recovery, where people might just go straight to their phone — no let’s get together and stay together as a group and have these conversations, even though they might be hard, sometimes,” Vickerman added.
