“My legs felt good”: Adams on monster dunk
Sydney Kings star Jaylen Adams has explained how he felt when he saw the lane open up before his dunk of the year to help lead the Kings to an epic win over Brisbane yesterday.
“I knew they were switching and I really didn’t want to get to the switch, so I refused the screen, and my legs felt good,” Adams said via the Sydney Morning Herald.
#SCTop10 for Adams dunk
Kings coach Chase Buford didn’t hide his thoughts on Adams’ dunk, saying it deserves to make Sportscenter Top 10s across the world.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">So how does Chase Buford feel about 'that' dunk? ?<a href="https://twitter.com/SportsCenter?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@SportsCenter</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/SCTop10?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#SCTop10</a> <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/NBL22?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#NBL22</a> <a href="https://t.co/Ahxy2AUsR5">https://t.co/Ahxy2AUsR5</a> <a href="https://t.co/wFU7YMVW4M">pic.twitter.com/wFU7YMVW4M</a></p>— The NBL (@NBL) <a href="https://twitter.com/NBL/status/1492752631973830660?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 13, 2022</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Kings to bring Clark up to speed
Buford said it wouldn’t have been fair to new signing Ian Clark if he played yesterday and he now has a week to learn the Kings’ system.
“I don’t know if playing 24 hours after landing from a 15 hour flight, not knowing any of our system and plays and defence, would’ve been fair to him. Now we’ve got a week to get him up to speed,” Buford said via Newscorp.
Dieng sidelined
NBL Next Star Ousmane Dieng will miss the next 2-3 weeks for the New Zealand Breakers due to a left wrist injury.
Creek battles through gastro
South East Melbourne Phoenix star Mitch Creek battled through a bout of gastro to play in yesterday’s game against the JackJumpers.
“He was throwing up right to the point of running out to play. He’s a blood and guts guy. I was looking at him at time-outs and he just had that washed over look on his face, really pale. But you know Creeky’s a warrior and you know he’s going to give you everything he has and I thought he was tremendous,” coach Simon Mitchell said via the Herald Sun.
Cairns is home for Deng
Ahead of his 150th NBL game, Taipans forward Majok Deng has revealed Cairns feels like home.
“As we speak now, there’s no place I’d rather be. I can see Cairns being home. We’ve had nothing but great things happen since being here – and that’s not just the club, but the community,” Deng said via the Cairns Post.
Put some respect on Ili’s name: JLA
Melbourne United’s Jo Lual-Acuil has declared teammate Shea Ili is the best defender in the NBL.
“I know I hear a lot of people talking about defensive player of the year, but I feel like Shea can be in that conversation every single year. I feel like he’s a little bit disrespected in that aspect. He’s definitely the best defender in the league and people really need to start recognising that and give him his props,” Lual-Acuil said via the Herald Sun.
Roth’s love for Steindl
Tasmania coach Scott Roth has heaped praise on Clint Steindl after his 250th game, saying he has played a key role in building the JackJumpers’ culture.
“I can't say enough about him and I thanked him before the game. This journey would have been a little bit different without him and I really appreciate him,” Roth said via The Examiner.
Bullets heading in the “right direction”
Despite their heartbreaking loss to the Kings, Brisbane Bullets coach James Duncan believes his team is headed in the right direction.
“We’re starting to go in the right direction. Obviously it’s a tough loss but there are a lot of positive signs,” Duncan said via Newscorp.
