In The Knick of Time: Rillie Set for NBA Stint

Perth head coach John Rillie is set to join the New York Knicks for the NBA Summer Legaue.

Perth head coach John Rillie is the latest NBL representative to take his talents to the NBA Summer League, following the announcement the former NBL champion will be joining the New York Knicks as a guest coach.

Following an illustrious NBL career, Rillie spent time coaching in the American collegiate system. He returned to Australia with the Wildcats ahead of NBL23.

He says the guest coaching experience will benefit both him and the Knicks.

“NBA teams are using the Summer League to better their international relationships,” Rillie said.

“I thought it would be a great opportunity for me to do some professional development … it’s a great opportunity to see how someone of Coach [Tom] Thibodeau’s experience runs his program, and what I can bring back to benefit the Wildcats.

“I’m hoping to take away from the experience ways in which I can become a better head coach.”

Cairns head coach Adam Forde and Sydney assistant Fleur McIntyre are currently with the San Antonio Spurs as guest coaches, while star Perth centre Keanu Pinder will suit up for the Phoenix Suns, among a number of NBL faces headed to Las Vegas.
