"I'm never leaving": Ninnis prepared to save hometown club

Friday, December 8, 2023

Scott Ninnis says he's preparing to help turn around his hometown club.

Scott Ninnis has been involved with the Adelaide 36ers since his playing debut in 1986, and the three-time NBL champion says his career spent with the club can help the new generation of players.

Ninnis was named as interim head coach for the remainder of NBL24 following the departure of CJ Bruton earlier this week following a pair of losses in Round 9 – including a 35-point defeat to Tasmania where Adelaide scored just 59 points.

“I’m passionate about using my experience and guiding this group onto bigger and better things,” Ninnis said.

“This is it, I’m a 36er, it’s been part of my life for 25 years one way or another.

“I’m excited, it’s what’s in my blood. I’m never leaving Adelaide. Adelaide is home and this is something near and dear to my heart.”

Ninnis’ interim stint will be the second time he’s led the club after holding the post of head coach between 2008-2010, and only returned to the 36ers as an assistant this season.

He also held an assistant coaching role at the club following his retirement in 1998, and has held poses at the Townsville Crocodiles and South Dragons.

His first game in charge will be Saturday’s clash with Cairns.
