How Moller's bounced back from horror knee injury

Monday, November 6, 2023
"Literally from October to March I was in a leg brace on crutches. I was basically in bed."
The cross-coder in Australian sport is not as common as it used to be, and after one game with AFL side Fremantle in 2013, Craig Moller’s basketball career has seen him rise to the heights of an NBL title in 2018 and a Boomers call-up in 2019.
His career almost came crashing down in 2022 though, while playing for German side Wurzburg.
An innocuous incident led to almost 18 months on the sidelines for the now 29-year-old, who suffered setback after setback after shattering his kneecap while playing on the other side of the world.
“People probably don’t realise how bad it was,” Moller told Code Sport of the injury. “Literally from October to March I was in a leg brace on crutches. I was basically in bed – I couldn’t even do upper body weights because I couldn’t stress my quad. I didn’t touch a basketball for a year.”
Moller has since returned to the NBL with South East Melbourne and played nine games this season.
