Goorjian's look at the Australians currently in the NBA

Wednesday, October 25, 2023
"He's fearless, plays with emotion, plays hard, always attacks the offensive boards."
Australian Boomers coach Brian Goorjian takes a look at the Australians in action this NBA season.
The new NBA season tips off on Wednesday morning, Australian time.
BEN SIMMONS (Brooklyn Nets): "My fingers are crossed he has a great year, and all signs in the pre-season are he's where he needs to be right now. Nothing's left him, he's just had some difficulties in the past. It's not like you're talking about a guy who is 40 years old or at the tail-end of his career. He's in his prime."
PATTY MILLS (Atlanta Hawks): "Patty has got a package, and it's about finding the right team that needs what he can bring. I'd love to see him back at San Antonio, he's a piece they don't have. Age to me is irrelevant with him. He hasn't lost a step as far as speed goes."
JOSH GIDDEY (Oklahoma City Thunder): "He's an amazing talent. He can play at his pace. You can't speed him up. He's absolutely gifted at passing the ball. This is a really good team for Giddey. He's a player the other players are excited to play with, because he makes them all better, and that's a sign of greatness."
JOE INGLES (Orlando Magic): "He was coming off that knee last season, and definitely did a great job (at the Bucks) in getting himself back. He's at the tail-end of his career, so finding the right team that suits you, that wants you and gives you a role to play, is huge. (Orlando coach) Jamahl Mosley played in Australia, has a good insight into Joe, has this young team and needs an experienced vet that knows how to play and win. What Joe brings to the table, Jamahl appreciates, and there's a role for him in this young group."
DANTE EXUM (Dallas Mavericks): "I'm unbelievably excited for him. He was in our top two or three players at the World Cup. He was playing in a very tough competition, the Euro League. He was required to run the team (Partizan Belgrade), be dynamic, and be a mainstay for them to be successful. He's in his prime."
JOSH GREEN: (Dallas Mavericks): "He's starting to grow as a player. He's very important for Dallas defensively. He's always guarding one of their better players or their best perimeter player. The key for him now for his future and having a great NBA career is just being a knock-down three-point shooter." Green signed a three-year extension with the Mavericks, worth a reported $US41 million, on the eve of the season.
MATISSE THYBULLE (Portland Trail Blazers): "Great athlete, great player, great person. He was happy to get to Portland and start afresh. Hitting that three-point shot consistently is something that this year is going to have to happen for him to establish himself in the rotation."
DYSON DANIELS (New Orleans Pelicans): "New Orleans have got talent, and their main three guys are healthy, but they've got a lot of injuries. Dyson is going to be a really important piece. He's going to have to get the ball to the guys that are important in their half court - Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram - and create for them."
JOCK LANDALE (Houston Rockets): "He's fearless, plays with emotion, plays hard, always attacks the offensive boards. He's a really nice piece for any NBA team. Houston are on the climb, they're young; it's a perfect spot for him."
DUOP REATH (waived by Portland/re-signed on a two-way)/JACK WHITE (waived by Oklahoma City)/XAVIER COOKS (waived by Washington): "It's a tough one. I'm waiting to see how that goes. Hopefully they get a sniff somewhere else."
