The excitement for the new-look Brisbane Bullets continues to build at the NBL Blitz after their second victory in Tasmania, beating last season's Grand Finalists the Perth Wildcats 100-90 on Friday night.
It's very much a new-look Bullets outfit heading towards the #NBL22 season under a new coach in James Duncan but from what they have shown now in their first two games at the NBL Blitz, there's plenty to be looking forward to.
Friday night's win over the Wildcats came without stalwarts and key backcourt members Nathan Sobey and Jason Cadee as well, but with Lamar Patterson looking ominous, Tom Digbeu delivering the highlight reel plays and Ty Harrison revelling in his battle with former teammate Matt Hodgson, the signs were uplifting.
It was a second game for both teams at the NBL Blitz in Tasmania with the Bullets able to back up their 10-point win over the JackJumpers back on Sunday while it's consecutive losses for the Wildcats under new coach Scott Morrison following a loss to Adelaide on Tuesday.
Putting it in perspective the Wildcats have now only been with their new coach for just under a week after he got to Tasmania fresh out of two weeks of quarantine in Perth, so there's no need for concern for the Red Army.
However, there is plenty to be excited about for Bullets fans and it all starts with two-time All-First NBL Team member Lamar Patterson. He is motivated, in shape and ready to roll in #NBL22 after another 16 points, seven assists and six rebounds on 8/13 shooting.
Ty Harrison was imposing inside too putting up 16 points and nine rebounds while Anthony Drmic is looking free and hungry too on his way to 13 points including going 3/6 from three-point territory.
Tom Digbeu has hops for days and knows how to finish on his way to another 16 points, four assists, three rebounds and two blocks including a spectacular finish on the back of a brilliant bounce pass catching him in motion from Tamuri Wigness.
There was enough from Robert Franks in his 22 minutes where he delivered 11 points, three rebounds and three assists while hitting 3/6 from downtown to suggest he can be a difference maker too.
Chuanxing Liu also had eight points and six rebounds for the Bullets and Deng Deng eight points and two steals in a performance that new coach James Duncan would have had to be satisfied with.
What Wildcats fans would have been happiest about on the night, and the rest of the league quivering about, was the form of Bryce Cotton. He looks ready and able to be back to his best and had 22 points and six assists on 9/16 shooting.
Vic Law was up against his team from last season and had 16 points, six rebounds and five assists for Perth with Luke Travers contributing 12 points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists, and Majok Majok 11 points, four boards and four steals.
The Bullets are next up on Wednesday against Queensland rivals the Cairns Taipans while the Wildcats are back in action on Sunday also against the Snakes.
