Sunday, August 11, 2019
The Brisbane Bullets are 2019 NBL Blitz champions.
The Brisbane Bullets have been crowned 2019 NBL Blitz champions, taking home the Loggins-Bruton Cup, named after NBL Hall of Fame members Leroy Loggins and Cal Bruton.
Brisbane defeated the NBL1 All-Stars 106-57 on the opening night of the Blitz in Ulverstone, before taking down the Adelaide 36ers 92-85 in Launceston on Saturday night.
All games in the NBL Blitz were played for seven premiership points. Three points were awarded to the winning team, with an additional one point awarded to the side that wins each quarter. In the event a quarter is tied, both teams received half of a point. If a game goes into overtime, no additional points were awarded.
The Bullets now turn their attention to the NBL's regular season, with their opener coming on Sunday October 6 against Illawarra Hawks.
South East Melbourne Phoenix guard John Roberson was named Ray Borner medallist, as the most outstanding player of the NBL Blitz.
Roberson hit seven-of-seven three-pointers against Sydney on Friday night, finishing with 31 points, before backing up that effort with 16 points, seven assists and six steals against New Zealand on Sunday.
In another win for the Phoenix, NBL Next Star Terry Armstrong won the dunk contest on Sunday. Melbourne United's Dave Barlow won the three-point contest.
