The New Zealand Breakers have appointed a new CEO ahead of NBL24.

Lisa Edser has been appointed as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the New Zealand Breakers.

Edser has been the Breakers’ COO since 2018 and was majority owner’s Matt Walsh’s first hire five years ago.

She takes over the CEO post from Walsh, who had held the role in a dual capacity.

“Lisa was my first hire over five years ago and has my complete confidence and trust,” Walsh said.

“She has already been fulfilling this role for over a year and we are simply formalising things to help deliver clarity around leadership.”

Edser has held roles at Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development, The New Zealand Rugby Players’ Association, and Emirates Team New Zealand.

With Edser based in New Zealand, Walsh explained her appointment is the best option for the club.

“Since my return to the United States during Covid, Lisa has been at the helm keeping us all connected. In fairness to Lisa, it has not been an easy task,” Walsh said.

“Lisa has the full support of the ownership group and we are excited for what the future holds for the Breakers.”

The Breakers had a dramatic turnaround last season, making the Championship Series after what was a heavily disrupted two years during COVID.

Alongside the club's new CEO, the Breakers have also announced a new naming rights sponsor, Bank of New Zealand (BNZ).

The new-look Breakers roster will play their first game of the NBL24 season on Saturday, September 30, against the Cairns Taipans.
