Stevenson calls for massive Tassie expansion

NBL CEO David Stevenson is hoping for any potential expansion of MyState Bank Arena to be over 1000 seats.

NBL CEO David Stevenson has called for larger thinking when it comes to the potential expansion of Tasmania’s MyState Bank Arena, and has cited the estimated 1,000-2,000 seat addition as too small.

The venue currently holds 4,300 patrons when set up for basketball and netball, and every seat in the house has been filled, for every JackJumpers home game in the club’s history.

“I think if there was to be expansion of MyState Bank Arena then it has to be a lot more than 1,000 seats,” Stevenson told Code Sports.

“We already have over 1,500 people on the waiting list for memberships.”

Stevenson added he is aware the Tasmanian government has “a lot of mouths to feed” and does not want the NBL to be seen to “jump the queue”.

“We want to expand MyState Bank Arena, but not at the expense of everyone else. We are very respectful of working with the government.”
