Adelaide 36ers CEO Nic Barbato has revealed the club's key target in free agency.

Adelaide 36ers CEO Nic Barbato has revealed the club is on the hunt for an import point guard.

After last season’s recruitment of the talented, but controversial, Craig Randall II hindered what was supposed to be a championship contending campaign, the Sixers are placing a high priority on the character of any potential signing.

“We’re looking for an import point guard, which will be really key for us,” Barbato told Newscorp.

“(Cultural fit is) a key factor for us in terms of the recruitment this year and, if that box doesn’t get ticked, then we’re not going to move on a player.”

Randall II was a supreme on-court talent but was released after just six games due to chemistry and cultural issues.

Last week, Adelaide head coach CJ Bruton warned fans to not expect any signings in the immediate future, saying “there is still a lot of background work to do” before adding new players to the roster.

Bruton has local guard trio Mitch McCarron, Sunday Dech and Jason Cadee at his disposal for NBL24, while star imports Antonius Cleveland and Robert Franks are contracted to return.

Isaac Humphries and Kyrin Galloway round out the fully rostered contingent, with Nick Marshall and Keanu Rasmussen signed as development players.

Barbato has declared the expectation “is to have a team that is here to win a championship” as the club seeks to reach the NBL summit for the first time since 2002.
