NBL analyst Liam Santamaria has revealed he is hearing “positive things” about Judd Flavell and the Brisbane Bullets coaching job.
NBL analyst Liam Santamaria has revealed he is hearing “positive things” about Judd Flavell and the Brisbane Bullets coaching job.
Flavell, a long-time assistant coach with the South East Melbourne Phoenix and New Zealand Breakers, has been linked with several head coaching jobs in the past.
While Greg Vanderjagt will coach the Bullets for the rest of the season, Santamaria says more change could be on the horizon come the offseason.
Yesterday Brisbane announced New Zealand national team coach Pero Cameron has joined as an assistant, which adds an extra layer of intrigue to the situation.
“I’m hearing some positive things with regards to Judd Flavell and that coaching position for potentially next season,” Santamaria told NBL Today.
“He was well and truly in the mix last time around when they eventually hired James Duncan.

“We will wait to see how that plays out. Those two guys (Flavell and Cameron) both have New Zealand heritage, and you would imagine would get along quite well in a coaching staff together.”
Santamaria praised the hiring of Cameron, believing he will be a positive influence for the Bullets.
“He is going to bring a presence in the locker room,” Santamaria said.
“When guys are starting to bark at each other after a loss or at half time when things are going pear shaped, when Pero Cameron speaks in those moments, everyone will pay attention and listen.
“He also brings a high level of basketball IQ, that’s what his game was based around as a player, and he has showed that nous as a coach as well.”
