Report: Goorjian out of Adelaide coaching race

Olgun Uluc says discussions between Goorjian and Adelaide "progressed to the point of deep contract negotiations".

Brian Goorjian has reportedly pulled out of the race for the Adelaide 36ers coaching job, according to ESPN basketball insider Olgun Uluc.

Uluc said discussions between Goorjian and Adelaide "progressed to the point of deep contract negotiations", before the Australian Boomers coach withdrew from the race.

Interim coach Scott Ninnis is keen to continue in the main role and further his impressive progress with the group, which enjoyed an 8-7 record after he took the reins from CJ Bruton mid-season.

"We were always going to wait until the end of the season [to discuss continuing in the role], that message has been crystal clear right from the start," Ninnis said.

"I'll sit down with the club this week and see what direction that takes us.

"But I've made no secret that I want to do the job and I'm confident that I'm the right person for it."

Adelaide finished the season in ninth position, but just one win off the Sydney Kings in fifth.
