RELATED: NBL Goes "Back to the Future"
Newly signed Sydney King Makuach Maluach starred in Darwin’s game against USC Rip City in NBL1 North over the weekend, as the NBL talent on show in the contest impressed in a high-scoring clash.
Maluach dropped 29 points and grabbed 11 boards in the 113-101 victory, and hit 12 of his 17 shots from inside the three-point line.
Teammate Sean Macdonald played more minutes than any of his Salties teammates in the win, and added 20 points, four rebounds, four assists and two steals in a rounded effort on both ends of the floor.
Maluach’s Sydney teammate Kouat Noi continued his dominance of the conference, with the reigning MVP also adding 29 points and seven rebounds in the loss.
South East Melbourne’s Matt Kenyon ended the game with 12 points and five assists, while former Wildcat Corey Shervill contributed 19 points in the defeat.
Illawarra's Wani Swaka Lo Buluk hit the ground running in his NBL1 East debut for the Sydney Comets with a 33-point masterclass against Albury Wodonga.

However, a huge fourth quarter comeback from the Bandits - they outscored the Comets 34-14 in the final term - saw Swaka Lo Buluk's side relegated to a seven-point defeat.
Brad Newley has taken bragging rights into the gym at Melbourne United after his Frankston side defeated the Zac Triplett-led Keilor by three points in a high scoring NBL1 South clash.
Newley added 16 points and seven boards in the win, while NBL23 Melbourne guard Lachie Barker dropped 20 points of his own.
Triplett scored 19 points and added seven assists in the defeat, but the Thunder emerged victorious in their second game of the round the very next day over Waverley.
NBL hopeful and recently naturalized Australian Dillon Stith continued to push his case for a top-level contract, with 27 points and 13 rebounds for the Falcons in the loss.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Dillon Stith throws it down with authority ?<br><br>Watch <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/NBL1South?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#NBL1South</a> via <a href="https://t.co/NEk1I7kIKG">https://t.co/NEk1I7kIKG</a> or the NBL1 App ? & ? <a href="https://t.co/p9YFmVTEGZ">pic.twitter.com/p9YFmVTEGZ</a></p>— NBL1 (@NBL1) <a href="https://twitter.com/NBL1/status/1662703514840363008?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 28, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Former UC Riverside and current Illawarra centre Lachlan Olbrich continues to adapt to open-age competition with West Adelaide in NBL1 Central, and he played a starring role in the Bearcats’ win over Woodville.
Both he and Tasmania’s Anthony Drmic scored 26 points in the 15-point win, while Olbrich also added a game-high 16 rebounds and two blocks.
Try as he might, an exceptional performance from Illawarra’s Will Hickey was not enough to prevent the Hawks from suffering a disappointing defeat to the Inner West Bulls.
Hickey scored a game-high 28 points in the defeat, while Hawks legend Tim Coenraad added 22. No other player scored double figures in the loss.
The Sandringham Sabres and Diamond Valley Eagles played out an absolute classic in NBL1 South, where uncontracted South East Melbourne centre Dane Pineau secured victory for the Sabres in the final seconds of the game.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">DANE PINEAU WINS IT WITH THE HOOK ? <br><br>Watch <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/NBL1South?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#NBL1South</a> via <a href="https://t.co/NEk1I7kIKG">https://t.co/NEk1I7kIKG</a> or the NBL1 App ?&? <a href="https://t.co/nu8w86dEBB">pic.twitter.com/nu8w86dEBB</a></p>— NBL1 (@NBL1) <a href="https://twitter.com/NBL1/status/1662398979458621440?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">May 27, 2023</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>
Melbourne United DP Campbell Blogg starred for the Sabres in the one-point win. He scored a game-high 28 points and added six rebounds, while Pineau added 23 points and 13 rebounds in addition to the game-winner.
Perth’s Kyle Zunic starred for Northside against the Sunshine Coast Phoenix in NBL1 North – he scored 27 points and added 10 assists in a dominant individual performance, while uncontracted Brisbane guard Lual Diing registered a double-double of his own with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
Brisbane’s Isaac White and Adelaide’s Alex Starling continued to dominate their respective conferences.

19-year-old NBL hopeful Lloyd McVeigh continued his burst of exceptional form alongside Starling for the Panthers and added 29 points, seven rebounds and five assists in the win.
