The countdown to NBL23 is nearly at an end. We’re now less than a week out from the opening game of the season, and the first round is full of mouth-watering matchups to kick off the campaign.

The Phoenix will be looking to bury some demons after missing the playoffs last season, and their first clash of the new campaign comes against the team that beat them to fourth spot – the Tasmania JackJumpers.

After their incredible run to the NBL grand final in NBL22, the JJ’s will be looking to hammer home their championship credentials once more and prove last season wasn’t just a flash in the pan.

The second game of Saturday’s opening night double-header sees a new chapter written in the old school Freeway Series, as the Kings travel to Illawarra for what will certainly be a hot-blooded clash.

With former Hawk Justin Simon now playing for the Kings and former King Wani Swaka Lo Buluk both switching sides, there’ll be plenty of heat in the contest as they each look to get an early win over their former teammates.

Melbourne United play host to New Zealand on Sunday afternoon, while the Perth Wildcats take on the Aron Baynes led Brisbane Bullets on Sunday evening.

The round’s play finishes off with a Monday night fixture between the JackJumpers and Taipans.

Keep an eye on NBL.com.au and the NBL App all this week for the latest news, as NBL23 tips off.
