The Tasmania JackJumpers have announced the signing of US import Josh Magette on a one-year contract with the club for the 2021/22 Hungry Jack’s NBL Season.
Magette just returned from the Tokyo Olympic Games, where he was a member of the Team USA Select Team. The 31-year-old has previously represented the USA as a member of the 2020 USA Basketball Men’s AmeriCup Qualifying Team.
A highly talented point guard, Magette brings NBA experience to Tasmania, having played 26 NBA regular season games across his career for the Orlando Magic (2019/20) and Atlanta Hawks (2017/18).
Magette most recently played for Darü??afaka in the Turkish Basketball Super League. He has also played professionally in the Netherlands, America, Greece, Croatia and Spain.
The Birmingham, Alabama native was an NBA G-League All-Star in 2017 and made the league’s Second Team in 2017 and 2020.
JackJumpers Head Coach Scott Roth said: “I am delighted to have Josh Magette on board with the Tasmania JackJumpers for the forthcoming season.
“Josh has been a target of mine for a while and I’m so excited to have him with us. I was fortunate to play with NBA legend John Stockton in Utah and Josh has lots of traits that reminds me of John.
“Playing the point guard position, Josh will provide the JackJumpers with great leadership and brings a team first attitude to the court. He is one of the smartest players I have seen, and his high IQ makes him a terrific passer and a player his teammates will love.
“We look forward to Josh getting to Tasmania and beginning this journey with us at the JackJumpers.”
Magette said: “I’m thrilled to be joining the JackJumpers for their inaugural season.
“I’ve always kept a close eye on the NBL during my career and the growth the league has had recently has been tremendous. To be joining the league on a brand new team in the JackJumpers is so exciting and it’s an honour to play a role in establishing a healthy and winning culture in Tasmania.
“After hearing about the strong vision Scott has for the JackJumpers, I knew it was a journey I wanted to be on. I can’t wait to get to Tasmania and get to work.”
Magette joins Josh Adams, Will Magnay, Jack McVeigh, Jarrad Weeks, Clint Steindl, Jarred Bairstow, Fabijan Krslovic, Sam McDaniel and Development Player Sejr Deans on the JackJumpers roster for the 2021/22 Hungry Jack’s NBL Season.
