Goorjian hands Giddey keys to Boomers kingdom

Thursday, May 9, 2024
Brian Goorjian says Josh Giddey is going to be the key decision maker in Australia's Olympic campaign.
The successful Boomers teams of the past decade have been run by a variety of players throughout Australia’s first golden generation, but no matter who that has been, they’ve always been in the NBA.
Andrew Bogut and Aron Baynes formed a fearsome duo for Australia in the 2010s, and then through into the early 2020s it was Joe Ingles and Patty Mills who came to the fore.
With Bogut retired, Baynes long removed from the Boomers’ best side and Mills and Ingles both approaching the twilight of their storied careers, the keys to the kingdom need to be handed to someone else for the future, and Boomers head coach Brian Goorjian says that man is Josh Giddey.
“Josh is the guy,” Goorjian told Code Sports.
“The skill that he has and what he is, we’re going to put the ball in his hands and he is going to be making the decisions.
“He is the one when you are on the sideline and you’re calling him over because it’s his game.
“He is the front door of the house to when that ball crosses half court, he is Patty’s bloodline, he is Joe (Ingles) bloodline and the same with (Jock) Landale.”
