Former Brisbane coach James Duncan has said “it would have been nice to stick it out” at his former side

Former Brisbane coach James Duncan has said “it would have been nice to stick it out” at his former side, following the announcement of the mutual termination of his contract this morning.

After winning just ten games last season the Bullets have slumped to the lower reaches of the ladder in NBL23 despite lofty pre-season expectations – they opened the campaign with six straight defeats before bouncing back to win three of their last four games.

“We were trending in the right direction,” Duncan told Newscorp. “It’s never been about effort, which has been great this season, guys have all been about it and working hard, it’s just been about trying to find the chemistry, which has taken longer than we anticipated.

“You are based on wins and losses, that’s how your job is and, when you’re winning, you’re at the top of the skyscraper and when you’re losing or expected to win and lose a couple of games, things get tough. In this sport, These things happen and now I’ve just go to gather my thoughts.”

Duncan's journey in coaching has seen him make his way through Europe, Asia and Australia.

While he hasn’t closed the door on an NBL return, the former Kings assistant says he’ll take some time to assess his options.
