Walker subs in for Knight
Perth Wildcats star power forward Matt Knight will miss up to two months of basketball after injuring his shoulder. Knight suffered a subluxation of his right shoulder in a training incident on Wednesday. While, at this stage, he won’t require surgery, Wildcats medical staff have prescribed rest, and he will begin rehabilitation on the joint immediately. Knight led the Wildcats in rebounds last season with 7.9 boards per game, while scoring 11.6 points per game (third in team). With the 2016/17 NBL season less than a month away, the Perth Wildcats have acted quickly in securing an injury replacement player for Matt Knight. 159-game NBL veteran Lucas 'Waxy' Walker has been signed and will join the team immediately. After returning to Australia from St Mary’s College, the Tasmanian played his first five NBL seasons with Melbourne. In 2015/16 he played with the Adelaide 36ers, averaging 5.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. The athletic forward stands at 202cm and weighs 102kg. He is expected to play the first seven games of the NBL season for the Wildcats. Walker will arrive in Perth on Monday morning and join the team for its pre-season games in Geraldton and Bunbury.
