The Hungry Jack’s National Basketball League (NBL) is aware that an agreement has been reached between Sports Entertainment Group Limited (SEG) and the Perth Wildcats that would see SEG take ownership of the Wildcats.
The NBL will review the proposed acquisition and may impose conditions should it give its consent for the transaction to proceed.
Hungry Jack’s NBL Owner and Executive Chairman Larry Kestelman said: “We have received an application from SEG and the Wildcats surrounding the future of the club’s ownership.
“The application is currently with the NBL for approval and we will review all elements of the agreement before a final decision is reached.
“It is a great endorsement of our league and business that a public company such as SEG sees great value in the NBL and wants to be more involved.
“I want to personally thank Jack Bendat for the unbelievable job he has done as owner of the Perth Wildcats. Jack has left an invaluable legacy on the city of Perth and the NBL and has been instrumental in shaping the Wildcats' ongoing reputation as one of Australia’s most successful sporting clubs.
“Since Jack bought the club in 2007, the Wildcats have won six championships and they have become the hottest ticket in Perth with constant sell outs at RAC Arena.
“At the age of 96, we are happy for Jack to now pass on his legacy to new owners of the Wildcats. We have the upmost faith and trust that Jack would only agree to sell the club to owners he believes will uphold the values of the Wildcats and ensure they remain a powerhouse in the Australian sporting landscape and we are equally confident that SEG are a great choice.”
