Statement from the Wollongong Hawks
Following a tough three months for the Hawks and in particular its players, coaches and staff we regrettably announce that Hawks legend Gordie McLeod will not be continuing as head coach of the Wollongong Hawks. With all players, staff and coaches needing to be recontracted following the voluntary administration process, a revised offer has been turned down by Gordie after spending the last two weeks weighing up his options. Although the club's preference was to have Gordie at the helm for the 2015/16 season, we understand his decision and fully support Gordie as he embarks on a new chapter in his career and life. Anyone who has been involved with the club over the last six years while Gordie has been at the helm would no doubt echo the thought that it was an absolute privilege to have someone of his calibre and character leading the club through the good times and the bad. Against the odds Gordie has achieved some fantastic results for this club and it goes without saying he will be sorely missed around the club. A reflection on Gordie’s coaching time here should be a celebration of his achievements and character and again we wish him all the best in his upcoming ventures. Despite this set back the club will push forward and continue to prepare for the upcoming season. In the interim the clubs recruiting process will be led by assistant coaches Eric Cooks and Mat Flinn while the search for a new head coach will commence immediately.
