The Illawarra Hawks will be without star import Justin Robinson for the entirety of the NBL23 campaign, due to a knee injury.

The Illawarra Hawks could be without star import Justin Robinson for the entirety of the NBL23 campaign, after suffering a meniscus tear in his right knee.

Robinson had been a strong performer during the Hungry Jack's NBL Blitz and loomed as one of the key men on Jacob Jackomas' new-look roster.

But the 24-year-old will now be forced to watch on from the sidelines, with the Hawks confirming he'll "likely miss the remainder of the season" in a statement released on Saturday.

"It is disappointing news for Justin and the club," Hawks GM of Basketball, Mat Campbell said.

"Since arriving in Wollongong, Justin has endeared himself to his teammates and the community at large, and on the court, his pre-season form and performances at the Blitz had him well placed for the season ahead".

"Justin is disappointed as he was ready to make his mark as one of the competition's elite guards. The focus will now be on ensuring he has the best help necessary, and the club and his teammates will support Justin in his rehabilitation".

Robinson will undergo surgery on Monday, with Kevin White to travel in his place for the Hawks' match against the Wildcats.

The club has begun looking for a replacement for the guard.

Illawarra won its first game of the season on Thursday night, without Robinson, defeating the South East Melbourne Phoenix by 13 points.

The Hawks will take on Perth on Saturday night in enemy territory, with the game live on ESPN via Kayo and Foxtel from 8pm AEDT.
