R4 Preview: Adelaide v Cairns

The Adelaide 36ers and Cairns Taipans, two teams currently heading in opposite directions, will kick off Saturday night basketball when they meet at Titanium Security Arena. The 36ers have won their last two games while Cairns have lost their past three, and both team’s streaks started when they met in Adelaide just over a week ago. The Sixers prevailed 88-79, as freshly signed Adelaide import and explosive ball of energy Jerome Randle debuted with a spectacular 24 points. The Snakes haven’t coped well with their travel-heavy start to the season, and after losing their first four home games, will be looking to break their road hoodoo in Adelaide. Tonight’s game presents Randle with his first chance to play on a full tank, having made his debut just two days after getting off the plane, and playing his second game just 24 hours later. The lightning quick guard will likely earn his first start, and told media he has even more to give after finally getting the chance to rest and learn Joey Wright’s system. Cairns have struggled mightily from outside the arc this season, shooting a league worst 22.3 per cent. Mark Worthington and Markel Starks have been the primary offenders, shooting 1/16 and 2/17 from distance respectively. Meanwhile Adelaide has shot at 39.3 per cent from distance - second best in the league - and 42.5 per cent since Randle’s arrival. Cairns will need to close that gap to ensure they have enough offensive firepower to hang with the 36ers. The Taipans will also need to lift on the defensive end, and Aaron Fearne spoke about the importance of playing an energetic, disruptive defence during the week. A lot is riding on this one for Cairns. A loss would drop them to 2-5, which is far from where they expected to be after making last year’s Grand Final and adding Mark Worthington in the offseason. Meanwhile a win for 36ers would send them to 4-2 - and 3-0 with Randle - after sitting at 1-2 just ten days ago. Watch the game LIVE on FOX SPORTS News or via the NBL app from 7:30pm EDT.
