Off-Season Update

With the 2014/15 NBL season finishing up earlier this month, players have taken up the opportunity to continue playing during the off-season in Leagues abroad. Ahead of this season, Melbourne United were able to secure the services of Philadelphia 76ers draft pick Jordan McRae, who has returned to the States to play with the Sixers affiliate, the Delaware 87ers in the NBA D-League. He led Delaware to an overtime victory on Sunday against the Oklahoma City Blue, scoring a career-high of 39 points and 13 rebounds. McRae had a quieter night on Monday, with 11 points in a loss to the Iowa Energy as he came up against former Sydney kings import Kendrick Perry. Perry signed up with Iowa, the Memphis Grizzlies D-League affiliate, only last week and put up eight points in the 117-98 victory. Across four games with the Energy, Perry has averaged 4.8 points per game in limited action at 13.5 minutes per contest. Meanwhile, the 2015 NBL MVP has taken his talents to Puerto Rico to play with the Cangrejeros de Santurce. Brian Conklin has suited up in five games so far, averaging 16.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per contest. Conklin has topped 20 points on two occasions in addition to putting up double-doubles against Humacao and Coamo. His Santurce squad holds a 4-2 record early in the season. Adelaide 36ers import Jamar Wilson will be suiting up for the SPO Rouen Basket in France for remainder of the LNB Pro A season. Wilson is coming off a blistering end to the NBL season and got his first opportunity for Rouen against Le Mans, putting up six points to go along with three assists. For the 2015 NBL Champions, the sharp-shooting Corey Webster has made his way to Serbia to play with the Mega Leks in Belgrade. The man who hit the game-winner for the Breakers, Ekene Ibekwe, will also be playing in Puerto Rico with Atenienses de Manati. In his first game Ibekwe put up an efficient 10 points and four rebounds in 14 minutes of action. There’s no time off for the Cairns Taipans imports, with Snakes superstar Scottie Wilbekin backing up his incredible rookie season with a stint in Greece. He joins AEK Athens as they approach the Greek A1 Basketball League finals, playing his first game on the weekend with nine points, five rebounds and five assists in a seven-point win against Kolossos. Taipans teammate Torrey Craig also had a stellar NBL debut and impressed New Zealand during the Finals series, going on to sign with the Wellington Saints as they look to defend their Championship in the 2015 NZNBL season. Craig joins Leon Henry from the Townsville Crocodiles in the line up, with Crocs centre Mickell Gladness heading to Christchurch to play with the Canterbury Rams. The NZNBL will feature a strong Australian contingent with Todd Blanchfield, Josh Duinker, Jason Cadee and Tom Garlepp also making the trip across the Tasman to take part in the season when it begins in April.
