Off-Season Tracker: Craig continues to star in NZNBL

As the NZ NBL approaches it's penultimate Round 11, teams only have two remaining rounds to claim their spot for the playoffs. After a strong push in Round 10, the Wellington Saints have claimed first place thanks to the performances of their superstar Torrey Craig who managed 30 points, nine rebounds and seven assists in a crucial win against the then tied-first Super City Rangers. The new Brisbane Bullets import continues his hot streak in the NZ NBL where the MVP candidate currently averages 22.8 points, 10.1 rebounds and 2.9 assists. The Saints are closely followed by the Canterbury Rams, sitting second place with 20 total points; while the Super City Rangers and the Southland Sharks sit third and fourth place respectively. The Sharks recently pulled off an incredible 23-point comeback victory against the Nelson Giants. As a result, the Giants now sit in fifth place with a total of 16 points. After their massive comeback game against the Giants, the Sharks are looking to make a further regular season push after the recent signing of new Illawarra Hawks recruit Mitch Norton following his return from the CPA Australia NBL All Australian China Tour. Norton will be joining fellow Breakers centre Alex Pledger and reuniting with former Townsville teammate Nick Kay. Both have had to have impressive performances in the NZ NBL with Pledger currently averaging a double-double of 16.3 points and 11.7 rebounds; while NBL Rookie of the Year Nick Kay has an average of 18.5 points per game. Watch the Wellington Saints (Torrey Craig, Tai Wesley, Shea Ili, Leon Henry) visit the Canterbury Rams this Saturday 21 May at 5pm EST at nzherald.co.nz.
