Off-Season Tracker: Asia and Elsewhere

The CPA Australia NBL All Australian team have landed in China, and started preparations for their three-game series beginning this Friday night. The series presents an ideal opportunity to impress Australian Boomers Head Coach Andrej Lemanis as they take on the defending FIBA Asia Champions in their hometown cities of Nanning, Guangzhou and Beijing. While the Aussies represent in Asia, back home the Adelaide 36ers recently announced Mitch Creek's three-year extension. The new contract continues his reputation as a "one club player," after beginning his professional NBL career as an 18-year old ahead of the 2010/11 season. This off-season, Creek has been putting up giant numbers in the South Australian Basketball League after his Southern Tigers side recently beat the Central Districts Lions 100-74. The 24-year old proved himself as an offensive juggernaut leading the game with 29 points. He continues to lead the SA League in points scored with an average of 25.88 points per game. Meanwhile former Adelaide player Brock Motum and Jerome Randle's Zalgiris side finished the regular season comfortably in first place with a commanding record of 32 wins and four losses in Lithuania. In the quarterfinals against Pieno Zvaigzdes, Motum contributed 13 points in Game One as well as this monster posteriser. In Game Two, Randle had an incredibly hot shooting night going 4 for 6 from the three-point line. Randle's shooting touch lead him to a game-high 18 points and seven assists which ultimately contributed to a 84-71 win. Zalgiris managed to pull away with the sweep in Game Three with a scoreline of 95-81 after a strong team-oriented defensive performance where Randle and Motum combined for 12 points and three steals, in turn, moving their side through to the semi-finals. Also in Lithuania is Sydney's Angus Brandt, where his Siauliai side have a 1-1 record to start the best-of-five quarterfinals series. In the series opener, Brandt managed 11 points and 5 rebounds against 3rd place Neptunas. Siauliai and Zalgiris may potentially face each other in the Lithuanian grand final if both teams are able to overcome their quarterfinals and semifinals series. Not too far away in Greece, Melbourne's Hakim Warrick carried his Olympiacos side to a quarterfinals sweep against AGOR. Warrick scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the charge for the winners through to the semifinals. The NBL's Best Sixth Man put on a dominant display, shooting a whopping 73 per cent from the field making 8 of 11 field goal attempts.
