Just hours before they take the RAC Arena court, the New Zealand Breakers have suffered a tough injury blow.

The club announced on Saturday that superstar guard and MVP contender Parker Jackson-Cartwright would be sidelined for a number of weeks due to a lower-leg injury.

Breakers President of Basketball Dillon Boucher said the club is playing the long game with their talismanic on-court general.

“As with any player at the club, our priority is their health and wellbeing and, in this case, we are taking a cautionary approach with Parker,” Boucher said.

“Our medical team have caught this early and will manage and monitor him carefully over the next few weeks.”

The American guard will be replaced in Gordon Herbert’s squad on Saturday by Kael Robinson.

This injury news comes as the Breakers are reportedly closing in on German international Nelson Weidemann.

The Breakers play the Perth Wildcats from 9.30pm AEDT on Saturday, live on ESPN, 9 and 9Now.
