NBL signs Major League Athletic Suppliers as Sponsors

The new-look National Basketball League continues to excite the sporting world with the announcement today of leading US athletic products McDavid and Shock Doctor as major sponsors. McDavid will be the ‘Official Compression Apparel of the NBL’ and Shock Doctor will be the ‘Official Mouth Guard of the NBL.’ General Manager of the National Basketball League Jeremy Loeliger said he was excited to announce the official partnerships with McDavid and Shock Doctor. “Today’s announcement is the beginning of two fantastic partnerships for the NBL. We have a vision at the NBL to make basketball the number-one summer entertainment sport in Australia, and we are seeking to collaborate with partners that share that vision and are also number-one in their field,” he said. “Both McDavid and Shock Doctor are the premier product in compression wear and athletic protection and have a long history of supplying elite sports leagues in the United States. Their expertise in athletic performance is second to none and we will look forward to seeing our NBL players in McDavid compression wear and Shock Doctor mouthguards at season tip-off in October.” The NBL’s partnership with the two brands is the first time either of the predominantly US-based products will have an overall league presence in Australia, with Australian NBL clubs being supplied the products for training and game days. The New Zealand Breakers will begin using the compression wear the following season. As part of the agreement, McDavid will receive naming rights to digital content pushed out via the NBL’s new content channels which will track the recovery of the league’s injured stars, giving McDavid valuable brand recognition among the significant NBL fan base. McDavid and Shock Doctor have recently completed a merger to form United Sports Brands, bringing together years of athletic experience supplying major league teams in the United States. Among McDavid’s roster of brand ambassadors are NBA LA Clipper’s star DeAndre Jordan, NFL Cincinnati Bengal’s Dre Kirkpatrick and National Baseball League Los Angeles Dodgers Dee Gordon. Shock Doctor counts NBA’s Cleveland Cavalier Kevin Love, National Hockey League’s Toronto Maple Leaf Jake Gardiner, and NFL’s Tennessee Titans Akeem Ayers, together with Collingwood’s Luke Ball as the only Australian ambassador, among those who publicly endorse the mouthguard brand. Since being acquired by Melbourne-based business Larry Kestelman in June, the NBL has had an ambitious sponsorship and broadcast partner agenda designed to position basketball as sport’s premier entertainment product. The NBL also recently released its 2015/16 fixture which will spread NBL games across a five-day Wednesday-Sunday roster, pitting NBL against cricket’s big-bash summer series, ensuring a solid competition for mid-week sports fans ticket sales.   ABOUT McDAVID McDavid manufactures, designs and markets sports medicine, sports protection and performance apparel for active people and athletes.
