NBL releases 2015/16 season draw

The National Basketball League (NBL) today released its 2015/16 regular season fixtures, which features games five days a week across 19 rounds from Wednesday 7 October – Sunday 14 February 2016. NBL General Manager Jeremy Loeliger said the new-look draw is set to appease all sports fans with an action-packed, condensed schedule with new mid-week games featured. “We are extremely confident that the NBL is going to deliver great results this summer. Expanding on the traditional schedule gives those already following our competition a tighter and more exciting timetable, while providing a frontline, elite sports option at a different time for new fans to come on board,” he said. “This is set to be one of the most competitive seasons the NBL has seen in years, and we are going to produce consistent opportunities to watch live sports and see the superstar line-ups throughout the week.” The first game of the season will begin with the reigning Champions, the New Zealand Breakers on the road to visit the Adelaide 36ers. The Breakers then return home to host the Townsville Crocodiles in the first season home game across the ditch. For the Grand Finalists, Cairns Taipans’ new assistant coach and Hawks legend Gordie McLeod takes on his former club when the Taipans host the Hawks in their first outing as the Illawarra Hawks, a name the club reverted to last month. The Hawks then take on powerhouses Melbourne, New Zealand and Sydney before their most anticipated match up against Perth, where fans will see former Wildcats Championship-winning coach Rob Beveridge and MVP Kevin Lisch line up for the Hawks against their old team. Queensland fans will not have to wait as long for their favourite rivalry, with the Cairns Taipans getting home court advantage for the first Reptile Rumble against the Townsville Crocodiles in Round Two, after sweeping the series last season. Last season also featured the first Sydney Kings win against the Perth Wildcats in over four years, and the Kings have the chance to follow up in front of a home crowd on Sunday 13 December for their last game at the Qantas Credit Union Arena. The Kings then move to their new home court at the Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre where they will also host the first NBL game of 2016, but not before the NBL rings in the New Year with a Grand Final rematch between the Cairns Taipans and New Zealand Breakers in Cairns. The regular season concludes on Sunday 14 February, with long-time archrivals the Perth Wildcats challenging the Adelaide 36ers in Adelaide while the New Zealand Breakers visit Melbourne United for their last chance to defend their title before semi-finals begin.
