The NBL's annual pre-season tournament has been re-launched as the Australian Basketball Challenge (ABC), to be held in September, featuring two international teams alongside the 8 NBL Clubs. Two teams from the China Basketball Association (CBA), Zhejiang CB Golden Bulls and Tianjin Ronggang, are tipped to bring full strength line ups to the event, which are expected to feature a number of high-profile American imports. All eight NBL teams will compete in the ABC with the Chinese teams playing the Perth Wildcats, Brisbane Bullets, Melbourne United and Illawarra Hawks during the four-day event to be held in Brisbane from 23rd – 26th September. NBL General Manager Jeremy Loeliger said the Australian Basketball Challenge was part of the NBL’s vision to be one of the best Leagues in the world and establish Australia as one of the top locations for international players and teams to want to play. “In the future we see the ABC being a competition that involves teams from around the globe including the United States, Asia and Europe. We already have very strong interest from all three regions for next year’s competition, which is already in the works.” Mr Loeliger has been working closely with the Chinese Basketball Association on a number of partnerships with the NBL. “We have had considerable support from our counterparts in China and are delighted to have teams from both Zhejiang and Tianjin attending this year’s tournament.” “Their games will be streamed live into China, which provides another opportunity for the NBL to showcase its teams and players in to that very important market.” “Australian fans will also have the chance to see our teams play against international competition via live streaming on our website.” Tickets now available from Ticketek!
