NBL announces new Tribunal process

Tuesday 15 December The National Basketball League (NBL) has revealed a revised Tribunal Process for the remainder of the 2015/16 NBL season, to be applicable from Round 11 commencing tomorrow. Taking guidance from other major sporting codes, the new processes will provide a fair and transparent penalty system for on-court offences in particular, and replaces the former Tribunal regulations outlined in the 2015/16 NBL Tournament Manual. The revised system includes new management procedures that feature four main penalty divisions; classifiable offences, fixed financial sanctions, fixed tribunal offences and code of conduct offences. These classifications will determine the outcome of any reported offence, with an aim to increase efficiency and reduce the number of Tribunal hearings throughout the season. The NBL Commission worked closely with the Australian Basketballers’ Association and other credible resources to ensure the new system would be considered equitable for all parties involved. “The NBL has devoted a great deal of time to revising the Tribunal process, drawing on experiences of other sporting codes across Australia and New Zealand,” explained NBL General Manager Jeremy Loeliger. “The new system provides a transparent, fair and credible process that will protect the integrity of the new NBL.” The NBL Tribunal Booklet will be available from the official NBL website.
