Message from the GM

It is incredible to think that we are at the half way point of the 2015/16 NBL season already. Only a few short months ago, the future of the NBL was uncertain – minimal revenue, no broadcast deal and no strategic plans for growth and expansion. It is worth taking stock at this point and reflecting on how far we have come, but also how much hard work remains ahead of us. Now that every game is broadcast live in prime time, the eyes of the nation are watching to see whether we live up to all the hype. So far, I think the answer has been a resounding “yes” - but everyone is waiting to see whether our efforts can be sustained. I can assure you that nobody at the NBL will settle for the status quo as we, along with all of our partners, continue to strive for continuous improvement and innovation. Innovation can take many forms – and one of the most exciting ways we are looking to be innovative in the near future is in the way we deal with our peers around the world, to leverage some of the incredible talent that the basketball world has to offer. Whilst we have completely redeveloped our website, social media platforms, mobile offering and the ways that we communicate to our fans, we still have very lofty ambitions of further improvements in the technology space – and I am confident that the 2016/17 season will see the NBL take another big step forward in bridging the gap between our fans and our athletes. We want basketball to be the most accessible elite sport that it can possibly be. The NBL is back – perhaps not yet bigger and better than ever before – but we are certainly on our way.
