2007 feels like a lifetime ago for success-starved Bullets

Success for Brisbane has been few and far between for the Bullets since their last of their three NBL championships in 2007.

Since then, the Bullets have only played post-season basketball on two occasions, with the latest being in NBL19.

But with a new Head Coach, Will Weaver, and a revamped roster, the Bullets are determined to end that lean period and bring winning hoops back to Brisbane, especially with the 2032 Olympics coming to town.

"We know how big basketball is in Brisbane and we know what the city is like when success comes," Brisbane captain Mitch Norton said to CODE Sports.

"The 2032 Olympics is also around the corner, and it is attracting a lot of interest. Everyone who rolls through town is like the Olympics is here, and it is really exciting.

"We need to turn it around at the Bullets, there is no doubt about it, and it isn't going to be an easy fix, but I think the people in the locker room are all up for the fight."

Norton is one of the few remaining players from last year's Bullets side, having suited up for the club on 80 occasions.

He appreciates the importance of getting the club back to its winning ways, as does recruit Lat Mayen, who joined in the off-season from the Perth Wildcats.

"I want to be a part of rebuilding the Bullets; it would be cool to be a part of that history," Mayen said.

"To have my name as part of the side when the Bullets flipped the script is exciting. Everyone on the side feels the same way and wants to see the success. It is going to take time, but the plan is in place."

The Bullets open their NBL27 campaign on Tuesday night, hosting New Zealand at Pat Rafter Arena from 7.30pm AEST, live on ESPN.
