Kings add high flying American guard to roster

The Sydney Kings have signed Michael Bryson, a 6’5 shooting guard out of the University of Santa Barbara, California for the 2016/17 season. Michael is a dynamic athlete who made more three-pointers than anyone else in his college’s history, including nine in one game – another school record. Bryson played for the Phoenix Suns during the recent NBA Summer League in Las Vegas, where he was thoroughly scouted by the Kings coaching staff and Managing Director. This followed pre-draft workouts for NBA teams the Boston Celtics as well as the team he supported all his life – the Sacramento Kings. Head Coach Andrew Gaze says he’s confident he will be able to replicate his excellent college form in the NBL, and much more. “As much as our coaching staff love what Michael brings to the Kings on the floor, we have been even more impressed with the feedback we have received about his personality and his character.” Kings fans can look forward to seeing his impressive shooting range up close at Qudos Bank Arena this season, along with some high flying dunks and impactful defence. Kings Managing Director Jeff Van Groningen – who was in Las Vegas for the duration of Summer League says, “His overall athleticism, commitment to the defensive end of the floor and open court explosiveness is something that was great to see in person. He possesses a deep three threat and has shot at a really good clip over the four years of his NCAA career. We are looking forward to the way he'll complement our Kings squad. " He averaged 18 points and 6 rebounds per game in his final year in college and the 21 year old was close to making an NBA roster.
