Kickert & Maric join Boomers squad

The Australian Boomers squad gathering in Melbourne for a final selection training camp next week contains nine NBL players vying for the final team spots for Rio. The squad now includes Daniel Kickert and Aleks Maric due to the absence of Dante Exum who is recovering from injury and a recent knee injury in the NBA Finals to Andrew Bogut. Bogut’s availability for Rio is yet to be determined but as he begins rehabilitation and physiotherapy, he will not be able to participate in the camp. Kickert was a member of the Boomers 2006 World Championship team while Euroleague champion Maric competed at the 2010 World Championships and the 2012 London Olympics with the Boomers. “I’m pleased for both Daniel and Aleks that they will get an opportunity to compete in the camp,” said Australian Boomers head coach Andrej Lemanis. “Both are quality players and quality people who will each bring a different set of skills for the coaching staff to consider in terms of the overall mix of the team. “Being in a position to bring in players of their quality at this point is another illustration of the depth of talent we currently have in this country.” The Boomers will play two games at Hisense Arena against a Pac-12 Conference All-Stars team, USA with what will be the final team for Rio. “The camp and games at Hisense Arena form a critical part of our preparation for Rio,” said Lemanis. “We will continue to build on our offensive and defensive structures from previous years. We will also invest a lot of time off the court ensuring that, as a team, we put ourselves in the best position to deal with the challenges that lay ahead.” The 2016 Australian Boomers Selection Camp Squad:
