Johnson signs three-year deal with the 36ers

The Adelaide 36ers have secured the services of centre Daniel Johnson for the next three NBL seasons. The 27-year old first joined the Sixers in 2010 after beginning his NBL career with the Melbourne Tigers. The 212cm centre soon blossomed to become one of the best big men in the League, winning the Club's MVP award for three straight seasons from 2011-2014. Last season Johnson was recruited to Stelmet Zielona Gora in the Polish Basketball League, however returned to Adelaide's line-up for the latter part of the 2014/15 NBL season as an injury replacement for BJ Anthony. Immediately after the 2014/15 NBL season, Johnson was hit with a bout of pneumonia and was hospitalised for several weeks. "DJ" made a full recovery and this week signed with the Wellington Saints, and is set to harness his skills in New Zealand's NBL before returning to South Australia for pre-season training in August. Adelaide 36ers head coach Joey Wright is pleased to secured Johnson on a secure three-year deal: "It's great to have a player of DJ's quality here for the next three seasons," said Wright. "He's one of the best scoring big guys in the NBL and is the type of player you can build a successful team around." The National Basketball League free agency period begins today and the list will be available via nbl.com.au from 11:30am AEST.
