The Sydney Kings have announced that Ignatius 'Iggy' Mitchell has re-signed as a development player for the NBL23 season.

The Sydney Kings have announced that Ignatius 'Iggy' Mitchell has re-signed as a development player for the NBL23 season.

Mitchell, who was part of the club's championship run in NBL22, returns for a second stint with the Kings in NBL23.

The 19-year-old has impressed for Norths Bears in NBL1 East off the back of his inaugural season at the Qudos Bank Arena, recording averages of over 12 points, eight rebounds and two assists for the side.

He says while heading to the United States to play college ball was an option for him, he's happy to continue his development in the NBL.

"I'm excited to be back and honestly thought returning for a second season is better for my career than heading over the college," Mitchell said.

"I thoroughly enjoyed the experience of being around a professional club last year, learning first-hand from the best way to approach the game on and off the court.

"The impact year one with the Kings has on my game was evident during this season with Norths, where my shooting has come on leaps and bounds - purely by going up against guys like DJ [Vasiljevic] and 'Brucey' (Shaun Bruce) each and every day.

"I have no doubt Sydney is the best place for me to help reach my basketball goals."

Mitchell has joined the likes of Vasiljevic, Bruce and Angus Glover in re-signing for the reigning champions ahead of the new campaign.

Mitchell and his teammates, which include Xavier Cooks, Dejan Vasiljevic, Shaun Bruce, Angus Glover, Derrick Walton Jr, Tim Soares, Justin Simon, Kouat Noi, Biwali Bayles, Jordan Hunter, Jaylin Galloway and Jackson Makoi, officially returned to the court on Monday, August 22 for the start of their pre-season.
