The Illawarra Hawks will welcome William Hickey and Harry Morris as development players ahead of the 2022/2023 Hungry Jack’s NBL Season.
The Illawarra Hawks will welcome William Hickey and Harry Morris as development players ahead of the 2022/2023 Hungry Jack’s NBL Season.
Hickey previously played seven games for Melbourne United and two for the South East Melbourne Phoenix between 2020 to 2022.
The 23-year-old guard was a strong performer in the NBL1 South competition this year, averaging 18 points per game for the Casey Cavaliers.
He previously played a starring role for the Australian Indigenous team against Illawarra in the 2019/2020 season, knocking down 28 points.
Morris is a 6-foot-6 forward who has been a key contributor in the Hawks’ NBL1 program this season.
He’s averaged 17 points and six rebounds, shooting 39 per cent from three-point range.
Morris had a season-high 40 points against Albury Wodonga in early August.
New Illawarra coach Jacob Jackomas said he can’t wait to see what the new pair can bring to the program.
“Davo (Hickey) is a player we have watched with interest over the years,” Jackomas told the club’s website.
“He is an exciting talent with a unique feel for the game, and we look forward to continuing to develop and refine his skillset.
“Harry has had a great NBL1 season and has more than earned his position on the roster.”
With the addition of Hickey and Morris and the recent arrivals of imports George King and Justin Robinson, the Hawks now have just one roster spot to fill.
“The Illawarra region continues to nurture elite junior talent, and it is great to see local athletes like Harry and Lachie Dent get their opportunity to represent their home program,” Jackomas added.
Illawarra will take on UC Riverside in its opening pre-season clash on Saturday night at The Snakepit.
The game will be live-streamed on the NBL App and NBL.com.au.
