Gliddon signs for three

The Cairns Taipans have secured captain Cameron Gliddon’s signature for a further three seasons. The deal, which includes a European out-clause after the 2015/16 season, could see Gliddon in orange until 2018. Gliddon joined the Taipans as in 2012, garnering club Defensive Player of the Year and NBL Rookie of the Year honours while starting every game as a rookie. He was named the club’s Most Valuable player in just his second season in 2014, before leading the Taipans to the 2015 NBL Grand Final as captain. “This is a huge signing for the club. Cam is a very important piece of the puzzle for our programme moving forward,” head coach Aaron Fearne said. “I’m extremely happy to have him back with our group, to have our captain back leading our team.” Named club captain at just 25 last year, Gliddon averaged 10.2 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.5 assists as the Taipans finished in first place with a club-record 21 wins. Gliddon then thrived under the pressure of playoffs basketball, increasing his output to 12.3 points and 6 rebounds while shooting at 42 per cent from long range. “Cam should be proud of leading us to the NBL Finals at such a young age,” Fearne said. ‘He’ll be excited to work us back to that stage in the years to come.” “He plays the game the right way; his leadership skills are very good and he really cares for our programme.” “A lot of teams in the NBL would like Cam to play for them, so I’m definitely happy to have him back with the Taipans.”
