Emerging Boomer joins Bullets

The Brisbane Bullets have added emerging Boomers guard Matt Kenyon to their playing roster for the 2016/17 season. The 195cm guard has been playing for the Australian Institute of Sport’s (AIS) Basketball Australia (BA) Centre of Excellence team in the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL) this season and toured China recently with the Emerging Boomers squad. The 18-year-old’s quality jump shot and all round game was on show at the Under 20 National Championships in February, where he finished with 18.5 points, 9 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game playing for NSW Country. A Gosford City Rebel junior, Matt is seen as one of the rising stars of Australian basketball and joins a Bullets squad that features an excellent blend of experience and rising talent. “Matt is an outstanding junior with the ability to change the game at the defensive end of the floor and has good size to go along with the great motor,” Bullets Assistant Coach CJ Bruton said. “He is one of the best basketball juniors in the country with a huge upside that I believe will see him represent Australia on the national stage in the future.” “Matt reminds me of a young Adam Gibson who also spent time at the AIS and started his pro career with the Brisbane Bullets before representing Australia at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.” “Most importantly, Matt is a good person from a hard working family and he has earned everything he’s achieved so far.” Matt begins pre-season training with the Bullets on Monday (August 1) as the club prepares to take on UCLA (University of California, Los Angeles) in an exhibition game at the Logan Metro Sports Centre on August 29. The team will embark on a pre-season tour of New Zealand in early September before competing in the NBL Blitz pre-season tournament in Brisbane from September 23-26. The Bullets opening game of the 2016/17 NBL season is against defending champions Perth Wildcats at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre (Boondall) on Thursday, October 6.
