Door still open for Melbourne's Worthington

Melbourne United co-captain Mark Worthington has opted to insert a pause rather than a full stop on his time with Melbourne United. Melbourne wanted Worthington to return for a third NBL season with the club – and made a contract offer - but the club MVP appears likely to continue his career in Europe. “Mark was a very important part of our team and our club and we were eager for him to stay,” Melbourne United CEO Vince Crivelli said. “We made an offer that Mark declined, but we wish him well should he head back to Europe, and the door remains open for Wortho to return to Melbourne United.” A veteran of several NBL teams, Worthington averaged 12.6 ppg and 7.2 rebounds in 27 games this season and was a force of the competition. But Worthington is considering a return to Europe, where he played previously with Brose Baskets in Germany and Radnicki Kragujevac in Serbia. “Mark has decided at this time to kindly decline the offer on the table from Melbourne United as he looks to pursue opportunities in Europe, where he feels he has unfinished business after a sour end to his stint in Serbia,” Worthington’s agent, Daniel Moldovan said. “I am sure that we have not seen the last of Wortho in a Melbourne uniform.”
