Conklin, Jawai both found guilty by Tribunal

CONKLIN SUSPENDED BY TRIBUNAL

The National Basketball League’s Independent Tribunal has found Townsville Crocodiles player Brian Conklin guilty of striking Adelaide 36ers player Mitchell Creek with an elbow. The incident occurred in the second quarter of the Townsville Crocodile’s loss to the Adelaide 36ers at Titanium Security Arena. Conklin entered a plea of not guilty, however the Independent Tribunal Chairman found against this with a three-game suspension handed down as a penalty, two of which are suspended until the end of the 2015/16 NBL season. The two-game suspended suspension will come into effect should Conklin be found guilty of any physical charge during the remainder of the season. This rules Conklin out from participating in Townsville’s next game against Melbourne on Friday, November 20, 2015. Tribunal Chairman Tony Nolan QC noted that reckless behaviour is unacceptable and warranted a suspension with the player’s previous good behaviour taken into account when coming to a decision on a penalty.

JAWAI FOUND GUILTY, FINED BY TRIBUNAL

The NBL’s Independent Tribunal has found Perth Wildcats player Nathan Jawai guilty of striking Tom Abercrombie in the Wildcats game against the New Zealand Breakers in Round 6. The Tribunal Chairman was satisfied that Jawai struck in a reckless manner, and did not accept that it was a legitimate attempt to block the shot of Abercrombie. Jawai put forward a plea of not guilty which the Tribunal found against, imposing a penalty of $1,000 for the guilty charge. While the maximum penalty includes a suspension, factors such as Abercrombie being able to continue the playing in the game as well as Jawai’s prior good standing were taken into account. The Perth Wildcats next play against the Adelaide 36ers tomorrow night at Titanium Security Arena.
